New Year Resolution - Focus on what we love most

As 2010 comes to a close it is customary to reflect upon the past year and decide upon resolutions for the next year. Last year, I started this blog and unfortunately after 11 posts stopped writing. It wasn’t that I did not have anything to say to you, it was the simple fact that my life became terribly complicated.

Over the course of 2010 I forced myself to gain new knowledge; I earned the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Six Sigma Certification and also became a Certified Social Media Strategist. In fact, the birth of this blog was a result of my experimentation during the course of my studies in social media and my desire to get back to doing what I loved, Interior Design.

Last year was also the year that I became an Alzheimer’s Advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association to honor my mother who is in the last stages of early onset Alzheimer’s disease. I promoted awareness for much needed legislation and raised money to support families, like my own, who are suffering with the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s. In between all of this I was busy raising four at home teenagers and coordinating schedules so my husband could make the 6 hour round trip trek to see his son. This feat was further complicated by my mother being hospitalized five times from April to November.

This past year was a challenging and momentous year for me, full of new endeavors, heart breaking challenges, and personal achievements. I simply had put too much on my plate to accomplish last year; I had raised the bar across the board and struggled to vault over it.

And while these responsibilities, obligations and challenges are still ongoing...
I say good-bye to 2010 knowing I can shoulder them and greet the new year with a focus on what I love: Family, Friends, and Interior Design.

The 2011 year should bring some interesting topics to the Amusing Reflections blog.
In addition to the usual interior design advice/idea posts, I will be bringing you some insights on “green” design, product reviews, and local establishments in the Richmond, Virginia area who have their design esthetic down. I will also be walking you through some upcoming projects I have lined up, names will obviously be changed to protect the innocent.

As always, your feedback is valued, appreciated and integral to the lifeblood of this blog.

Recommendations for topics and requests for design advice can be submitted via my profile page:  Contact the Muse.
